Borrelia Burgdorferi and other tick illnesses in Oregon Founded in July 2003, Oregon Lyme Disease Network realized that many Oregonians had been misdiagnosed. The chronic fatigue, recurrent flu like illnesses and the neurological and neuro-cognitive problems shared by many Oregonians now had a common thread ~ a bacteria called B. Burgdorferi, the spirochete that causes Lyme Disease. Other tick borne illnesses associated with Lyme disease are also present in Oregon, such as Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichiosis and a variety of unknown organisms called BLOs*. There are two types of Babesia which affect people in NW and over 300 strains of Borrelia world wide. Ehrlichiosis strains that were known to dogs and other animals are also now found in humans as well. Oregon patients have been diagnosed with Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis and Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis, Babesia (WA and microtti strains) and several Borrelia strains. In the past two years, there are over 200 people who have received help from the Oregon Lyme Disease Network to find medical resources which could identify the unanswered reason for their health deterioration ~Tick Borne Illness.
